Halloween Investigation

My group (Jessica, Stephanie, and I) went on a search to discover if Halloween was more about candy or about scariness. We didn't want to outright ask people though, so we asked other questions (What is your favorite part of Halloween?, What are you doing this year?) that could still give us a good idea. This is our chronicled investigation!

Also, that black cat at the beginning?? His name is Magic!! haha. Very Halloweeny. =]

  1. Interesting take on Halloween documentaries! Did you have any trouble interviewing people? It was surprisingly difficult to get people to participate for ours.

  2. I didn't have too much trouble - I asked my boyfriend and his sisters for interviews, and another girl talked to the kids she babysits regularly. The guy and girl outside dupont were just two people we happened upon when looking for people to interview and they were okay with it. We did ask one really old couple and they said yes until they found it out it was about Halloween, and then they said no. haha.

  3. Yea, I think the Halloween theme turned some people off to our interviews, too. Some people also seemed freaked out about the idea of living in a haunted dorm (even though we assured them it was a mockumentary!) It was interesting to experience such a wide range of reactions to a seemingly simple request.

  4. Yay for halloween candy! I guess the holiday has evolved into some sort of commercialized enterprise.

  5. Candy does indeed win, and that is kinda sad for me, cause so much of the holiday should really deal with the carnialesque as well as the meditation on death and horror. But I understand that candy is a pretty powerful. I wonder how and when the candy market took over Halloween. Did you write about that in your history @Jenn?

Also, seems like the Mean Girls mashup is no longer embedded in your posts, and the comments are turned off. What happened?

  6. I don't know why the mean girls mashup got deleted, but I have fixed it now and added comments again. That was weird . . .

  8. Morrgan,

You mentioned the Talladega race track was haunted, and then i stumble upon this post which links to a 15 minute film made about this racetrack and its haunting by none other than the great Terry Gilliam. I love coincidence:

  11. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
